Metal Coaters® cleans, pre-treats and roll applies organic coatings in a continuous process on hot-dipped galvanized, Galvalume®, cold-rolled, electro-galvanized and aluminum coil. Pre-painted steel and aluminum coil is used in a wide variety of construction applications such as pre-engineered wall and roof panels, architectural building panels, agricultural wall and roof panels, garage and entry doors, door frames and commercial or manufactured goods such as acoustical ceiling grid, light fixtures, closet hardware, consumer electronics, office furniture and appliances.

The Lean Manufacturing Manager leads the continuous improvement initiative to eliminate waste, reduce cost and grow revenue.  This position is responsible to create and execute the vision and strategy in the execution of Lean principles.   Continuous Improvement encompasses the use of Lean Tools, Value Stream Mapping, Lean Material Flow, Visual Management, Material Pull Systems, 5S and Safety.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:  (To include the following, others may be assigned)


1.       Facilitates and coaches cross functional teams who are responsible for the planning, preparation, and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.

2.       Lead process improvement teams to apply process improvement methodologies, and achieve business results.

3.       Meet project goals and milestones.

4.       Develop and coordinate training processes for all employees and cross functional teams.

5.       Conduct follow-up assessments of completed training to evaluate and measure results.

6.       Modify continuous improvement activities and training programs as needed.

7.       Work with the management team to identify and prioritize process improvement opportunities. 

8.       Provide Business Leadership with support, tools and training to conduct meaningful project reviews.

9.       Lead efforts to implement process control and process mapping, documentation, metrics, and monitoring systems.



  • Demonstrated knowledge of Lean Tools, Value Stream Mapping, Visual Management 5S, and Lean Material Flow.
  • Ability to manage multiple complicated priorities/tasks.

  • Self motivated with a high degree of ownership and accountability for results.

Qualification Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelors Degree in Management or related degree, with a minimum five years of experience in leading process improvement teams or training.   Additional experience may be considered in lieu of the educational requirement.


Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend documents including policy manual, safety rules/programs, operating and maintenance instructions, summary plan descriptions and benefits plan documents, and other labor/employment-related documents. Must be able to communicate effectively one-on-one, and in group settings, to include employee training. Must have effective written communication skills to create memorandums that are appropriate for all audience levels, with correct punctuation and grammar. Must have above average interviewing skills.


Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as fractions, percentages, mean, and median, with the ability to apply the concepts of statistics and probability to practical situations.


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to perform work instructions that are furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Also, the ability to identify and resolve personnel issues/problems. Must be able to motivate and manage change effectively, and operate in “gray” areas typical of the Human Resources function. Above-average reasoning ability is required to assure that there is an effective balance between employee and company interests. Must be able to accurately assess and escalate issues that require the involvement of the Corporate Human Resources department.


Other Skills & Abilities:

Must be proficient in Word, Excel, and Power Point.


Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects; use of hands, fingers and arms for computer tasks. Specific vision abilities include close-up and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.


Work Environment:

The employee may be required to enter areas that are near moving mechanical parts, with occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals, and extreme cold or heat. The noise level in the work environment is considered moderate, but may require the use of hearing protection. The employee will be required to utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) when accessing certain manufacturing areas.
