Developing design experience and task management skills – This role requires a strong focus on technical ability required to obtain the necessary expertise to design metal building systems.  The substantial work of your role is to perform structural design of metal buildings with little supervision.  It is expected that you predict how much time a design will take to complete.  In addition, it is imperative that you have the ability to manage your individual efforts and coordinate with other employees to ensure that the design you are working on goes smoothly.


  • Engineer II -This role is of an engineer with typically two years of previous engineering experience.  In addition to the Engineer I requirements, this role will require the engineer to perform with minimal supervision and manager his/her own projects.  You will expand your knowledge of NCI design standards and learn to adapt the design software to unusual custom conditions required by our customers.   Checking the work of junior engineers will also be a requirement.
  • Bachelors Degree Required in Engineering; Manufacturing, Civil or Structural preferred

TechnicalThis role requires the technical expertise to be conversant on all applicable building codes, material design standards; industry sponsored research so that these accepted standards will automatically be implemented in designs.  Preparatory design for the sale of buildings as well as final design of building orders is expected.  This will account for approximately 80% of personal effort in my role.


People:  This role requires extensive teamwork with many other disciplines, including some without technical expertise.  It is required that I be able to work with them without being overly submissive or dominant as well as spread my knowledge to these other disciplines as much as possible to enable them to make sound decisions without my guidance if I'm not available.  This will account for approximately 10% of my personal effort in my role.


Planning/Scheduling: Planning and scheduling work includes being able to accurately predict the time frame I require to complete any required task as well as follow through with the commitments I make.  I will also have to follow up on completion of deadlines not in my scope of work so that I do not put my schedule in jeopardy by not having the required information when I need it.  Scheduling work will account for approximately 10% of my personal effort in my role.
