Welder duties include:

  • Fit up and weld parts involved in the production of structural components to produce quality-building parts. 
  • Knows and understands all safety rules and precautions necessary for working in and about a manufacturing environment.
  • Checks work assignments and interprets blueprints and/or three view shop drawings to determine parts required.
  • Responsible for measuring, marking, counting, and locating components on/in an assembly.  Advises supervisor of any discrepancies in and/or shortages of required parts.
  • Positions sub-assemblies on parts using clamping devices and material handling equipment as required.
  • Uses necessary tools, measuring devices, templates, etc., to join up parts in accordance with blueprints and specifications maintaining allowable tolerances.  Uses welding, flame cutting, flame-heating, quenching, or mechanical equipment to tack and/or weld components in place, align parts, and to bevel or cut flanges, webs, stiffeners, etc., as required.
  • Install metal tags to identify parts and uses assigned personal identification stamp in designated area when operation is completed.
  • Operate material handling equipment as required.
  • Practice good housekeeping skills around work area.
  • Special projects as required.
  • Maintain AWS and CWB weld qualifications.



Must have a working knowledge of :

  • Material handling equipment (i.e. cranes, etc.)
  • Manufacturing equipment
  • Welders, flame-cutting, flame-heating and quenching equipment
  • Associates degree or equivalent from 2-year college or technical school.  One (1) to three (3) years working experience in welding; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferably as a welder/fitter in the manufacturing industry.
  •  Welding Coated Sheet Metal (16ga.)
  • Training in Blueprint Reading (Three View Drawings)
  • Operation of MIG welding and plasma cutting equipment
  • Able to pass AWS D1.1 and Canadian Welding Bureau Welder Qualification Tests
  • Must be able to read blueprints and three view drawings.
  • Familiarity with measuring tape (down to a 16th), protractors, and other measuring equipment.
  • Basic math skills required.
  • Tact, honesty and candor are required traits.
  • Must be able to pass pre-hire assessment criteria.
  • Must be able to pass background and drug screen.
  • This is a night shift position.
