Responsibilities

The primary objective of the Regional Planner is to ensure that the most cost effective business practices are being adhered to when executing shipments to internal or external customers in order to control freight spends.A well rounded candidate will have experience with daily transportation operations, and understand the cost structures of hiring dedicated carriers, contract carriers, and private fleet capacity. Provide continuous improvement by ensuring high service levels and driving costs down through TMS analytics, process streamlining, ongoing new-carrier identification and aggressive rate negotiations. Study and understand transport market rate and capacity trends and cost pressures.

 

The Transportation Regional Planner will:

  • Manage the movement of products/equipment/materials in accordance with organizational policy and procedure
  • Formulate comprehensive and cost efficient logistics plans for local execution
  • Communicate with Regional and Local planners to ensure efficient, cost effective transportation solutions are being executed
  • Establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with suppliers
  • Communicate with Corporate IT department any relevant technical issues and future system enhancements
  • Monitor, record, analyze and report on activities, metrics, trends, financial results and recommendations relating to freight expense
  • Investigate, plan and implement strategically effective and relevant transport methods which optimally meet the needs of the organization and its customers
  • Based on statistical analysis, use fact based judgment and initiative to develop effective and constructive solutions to challenges and obstacles in the transportation sector
  • Pursue personal development of skills and knowledge necessary for the effective performance and enhancement

 

Qualifications

  • Preferred Bachelors degree in Logistics, Transportation or other Business related field 
  • 4+ years of transportation opperational experience
  • Experience with Oracle’s Transportation Management system or other Transportation Management System Preferred
  • Experience in Private Fleet Management
