This position serves as backup to the Senior AR Specialist: In that capacity, occasionally, this position will have to: Process customer invoices on Dynamics SL accounting system via data import from order entry system; retrieve customer deposits and deposit records; provide information to credit department; post customer payments to customer accounts in Dynamics; generate month end statements and reports; insure proper month-end balancing.


Essential Duties:

  • Research and determine sales taxability of jobs to be invoiced
  • Communicate with customers via email and/or phone to obtain valid exemption certificates.
  • Organize and file valid exemption certificates for customers
  • Track and maintain taxability statuses of customers via an Excel spreadsheet
  • Communicate with state taxing authority to obtain validation of exemption certificates and clarification of taxability issues
  • Identify and prevent errors such as misnamed jobs or incorrect job details as part of initial sales taxability review and communicate to customer service department corrections/additions if needed
  • Update taxability statuses in MMS32 (Metl-Span’s order entry system); input exemptions to Vertex sales tax system; coordinate and liaison with NCI’s tax department in Houston.
  • Review daily pre-invoicing information to ensure appropriate tax treatment
  • Research and become familiar with various state sales and use tax rules; contribute to proper sales tax compliance
  • Educate customers and other departments as needed on sales tax issues
  • Submit tax credit and debit memo requests to Sharepoint system. 
  • Assist with audit requests and special projects as needed.


  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Finance or Accounting
  • Minimum one-year experience in sales tax
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to set priorities, multitask, meet deadlines, and resolve problems with a high sense of urgency
