We are looking for an Environmental Specialist to support environmental compliance programs for our manufacturing organization, including primary responsibility for environmental compliance at our flagship Houston-area metal buildings manufacturing facility. The Environmental Scientist/Engineer will report directly to the Vice President of Environmental Affairs and will be tasked with the following duties:


  1. Provide oversight and technical/regulatory support for day-to-day environmental compliance and regulatory reporting tasks for air, wastewater, storm water, hazardous waste, spill prevention and emergency response for facilities across our four manufacturing segments (coil coating, engineered metal buildings, metal building components, and insulated metal panels).
  2. Prepare environmental permit renewal applications and state and EPA regulatory submittals (e.g., emission inventories, TRIs, Tier 2, DMRs and hazardous waste reports).
  3. Keep abreast of newly promulgated state and federal environmental regulations applicable to our manufacturing operations.
  4. Prepare, implement and maintain applicable environmental training programs for the manufacturing organization.
  5. Engender teambuilding, cooperation and customer service with internal business partners throughout the manufacturing organization on environmental compliance matters.

  • An Engineering or Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited university.
  • A minimum of 7 years of manufacturing, or environmental compliance consulting experience in support of manufacturing clients, is required.
  • Must have the ability to read and grasp technical documents, environmental regulations, and mathematical calculations. Proven project management experience is a plus.
  • Direct hands-on experience with (or a comfortable working knowledge of) air quality rules and NSR/Title V permitting; NPDES/storm water permitting and reporting; and RCRA/DOT/SPCC/EPCRA rules and compliance is required.
  • Must be positive, self-motivated, flexible, energetic and ethical; enjoy challenges and problem-solving; and have the ability to efficiently manage work flow, schedules and deadlines.
  • Must have effective communication skills, be customer-focused, and have the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and personalities, from senior management to hourly plant personnel. Spanish language skills are a plus.
  • Proficiency with Excel is required.
